System Safety Society Liaisons to Other Professional Organizations

Government Electronic Industries Association System Safety Committee, G-48

The G-48 Committee develops technical and program criteria, procedures, and methodology for the application of system safety engineering at all phases of the life cycle of a system or equipment. It documents and disseminates standard analytical techniques for enhancing system safety and conducting industry surveys for the purpose of improving techniques for testing, collecting and distributing historical operational system safety data. The committee holds three regular meetings per year. The System Safety Society is a regular member of this committee and reports on its activities quarterly. Mr. Clif Ericson () represents the System Safety Society at these meetings.

Board of Certified Safety Professionals

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) was organized as a peer certification board with the purpose of certifying practitioners in the safety profession. The specific functions of the Board, as outlined in its Charter, are to evaluate the academic and professional experience qualifications of safety professionals, to administer examinations, and to issue certificates of qualification to those professionals who meet the Board's criteria and successfully pass its examinations. BCSP holds national accreditation.

The System Safety Society has been a sponsor of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals since 1977. The System Safety Society nominates safety professionals to serve as a Director of BCSP. As a sponsoring organization, the System Safety Society endorses the process used to evaluate basic professional safety competency.   Mr. Richard Stephans (), Consultant, and Mr. Larry Jones (), Dynetics, serve as Directors for the System Safety Society.

Reliability and Maintainability Symposium

The Annual Reliability and Maintainability Symposium is sponsored by ten professional societies. The System Safety Society has a seat on the Symposium's Board of Directors. Mr. Dev Raheja, Consultant, and Mr. Brian Moriarty (), TRW Information Systems Group, represent the System Safety Society at these meetings.
