Q: Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and ABIH CM Points for Tutorials at ISSC2008:
A: Given the popularity of the professional development program at the recent International System Safety Conferences, ISSC2008 will continue to coordinate issuance of CEUs and request approval from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene for the award of CM (Certification Maintenance) points through an agreement with the University of Cincinnati. When the tutorial schedule is posted on the ISSC2008 website, it will contain links to detailed information about each tutorial, including course overview, instructor biosketch, prerequisites, learning outcomes, duration, and CEU/CM points. Certificates will be issued to each tutorial attendee upon completion of the course. These certificates provide adequate documentation for BCSP's COC and ABIH's CM programs, and should satisfy the requirements of other organizations.
Q: Poster Sessions--I've never done a poster session before. What is it and how do I submit a proposal?
A: Though Poster Sessions have not been a feature at past ISSC's, we're hoping to introduce a new venue for exchange of information. Poster sessions are quite common at other professional conferences. They have the advantage of a compressed production schedule: you don't have to submit a full paper months in advance of the conference, so they are perfect for hot topics. For each poster, the title, abstract and author information are published in the printed program book (and on the conference website), so that the attendees can make a preliminary selection. At the conference, the posters are up for viewing for half a day or a full day, and the authors are stationed by their poster during a designated 60- or 90-minute period to answer questions. After chatting with those who stop by to discuss your work, you may gain additional insights that may be useful when you write up the work for submission to a journal.
The editor of the Journal of System Safety will be visiting the poster sessions to talk to prospective authors. Most poster presenters use a PowerPoint template to prepare their poster, and then have it printed on a large format printer, and transport it to the conference in a plastic or cardboard tube, similar to what would be used for an architectural drawing. Q: If I want to ship something to the hotel, how should it be addressed?
A: You can use this shipping label. However, if you are shipping goods of any kind to the conference from outside Canada, you should be aware of government regulations regarding importing goods into Canada. Our information for sponsors and exhibitors provides useful information in this regard.
