Florida Chapter System Safety
Society Presents
Subject: 9/5 Weekly Success Stories
1. The updated SSS Strategic Plan was sent to the EC members. It has been updated based on the input received at the conference. It describes some goals within each of the three business units or branches (Science & Technology, Information, and Education) that were discussed at the General Membership meeting. Please contact your EC member for a copy if you are interested.
2. Warner Talso wrote a "What's in it for me" paper on the value of being a SSS member. Look for it to appear on the home page [www.system-safety.org]
3. We had one example of how we could provide service to our customers. An individual asked me if I knew of someone who had experience welding explosive components. Through the SSS grapevine we had several names identified. This is an example of the "brokering" of knowledge referred to in the strategic plan. The jury is still out whether the customer has been satisfied. Thanks to Paige, Doug Smith, Jeff Mahn, and Art Ratzel for supplying some contacts.
4. Wayne Christensen will be talking with Jerry Scannel, President of NSC, this coming Wed regarding the ISTD participation at our conference next year in Seattle. Wayne also wanted to order a Handbook.
5. I have taken over the role of conference chair on an interum basis to make sure we don't miss some important deadlines to the conference planning. We are still in need of a Technical Chair and have need for session chairs. So far the core planning team made up of Paul Kryska, treasurer; Warner Talso, sponsors; Charles Hoes, publicity; and Clif Ericson (title TBD), will put together the first call for papers, design a logo, and establish a conference theme. Let me know if you want to be a part of this rewarding experience. We plan on developing some kind of profit sharing program for those chapters participating.
That's it for this week. Talk to you again next.
Regards,
Perry
