Florida Chapter System Safety Society Presents

S5 System Safety Society Success Stories

Subject: Various Goings-on with the SSS

Seattle success story:  The 16th International System Safety Conference was another resounding success.  Attendance was good, with the total number just below 350.  Who's who in the profession was there.  Clif Ericson, the conference co-chair did not disappoint anyone with the marvelous weather.  The technical program was great.  Good tutorials and some outstanding papers and presentations.  The Boeing tour was interesting and most people went on the boat ride to Timicuan Village.  A good time was had by all.

Two new chapters were announced at the ISSC in Seattle, the Puget Sound Chapter and the Northwest Chapter.  Both of these are in Washington State.  Of course, the Puget Sound Chapter is in and around Seattle, whereas the Northwest Chapter is located east of there.

International interest in the society continues to increase.  In addition to the countries (around 2 dozen) represented at the ISSC, there has been interest expressed from Japan and other places.  I have personally gotten emails from the UK, Germany, Australia, and Sweden.  These people have different perspectives on system safety, being from a slightly different culture.  Refreshing!

This is just the tip of the ice berg, but I have to stop here for now.
