There were three areas of discussion during the meeting. The main agenda was to discuss hosting the 1999 ISSC and conduct a vote on submitting a proposal. Some administrative issues were discussed as well as the upcoming SSS elections.

Upcoming local and national training opportunities were discussed. Paul Kinsey called a SSS executive council meeting on 25 Jan 1997 in Washington, DC. Connie Perry would be attending, representing the FL chapter. Mike Willoughby reported that Frank Zelesky was sick and was not able to attend the meeting. Bill Valentine and Darrel Stokes also contacted Mike to indicate that they would not be able to attend the meeting, but would support the chapter's bid to host the meeting.

Mike Kochmann introduced the proposal by discussing the following:

Mike Willoughby continued with a description of the key conference positions. Afterwards, he led a path around the table, with each person in attendance expressing interest in the following positions:

Other chapter members that have an interest in holding a chair postion need to get with one of the officers. It was discussed that some in this category were not in attendance.

In a unanimous vote, the chapter agreed to submit a proposal to the SSS for the 1999 conference. It was agreed that a draft proposal would be ready for the next chapter meeting, tentatively scheduled for 12 March 1997.

Mike Willoughby proposed that the chapter endorse candidates for the upcoming national elections. Several members were not in favor of a chapter endorsement and the motion was withdrawn. The candidates were discussed, however, and it was agreed that it would be appropriate for any individual to endorse a candidate and express his support by e-mail or through a letter to the editor of Hazard Prevention.

Mike Kochmann also mentioned that at the next chapter meeting, nominations would be accepted for chapter officers. Ballots will go out in the Apr/May time frame for a June election.
