System Safety Analysis Handbook

2nd Edition Now Available!

The System Safety Analysis Handbook is the reference for all safety practitioners and any others who are involved in evaluating safety of policies, plans, processes, products, services, or other activities. Looking for fresh ideas or want to better understand program safety activities and how safety impacts resource allocation and planning?  This Handbook is a "one-stop" source for many different concepts and ideas. Some techniques listed were developed for very specific problems; others have broad application addressing a wide variety of problems. Whether quantitative or qualitative, inductive or deductive, chances are the techniques are included in this text. The text will broaden the horizons of the analyst, and assist in building better and more effective safety practices and programs.

The Handbook is a stand-alone document. The 2nd Edition of the Handbook has 626 pages and contains a compilation of 101 analysis techniques and methodologies, plus other related information for every safety practitioner. It addresses system safety planning, Process Safety Management (including OSHA and EPA requirements), software system safety, and a section on the application of fuzzy and hybrid mathematics to safety analysis. A glossary is included. The reference section includes a recommended readings list.

The printed version of the Handbook is in an 8 inch by 11.5 inch loose-leaf binder so that additions, changes and your personal notes will be easily accommodated. Future additions will update information in a similar manner as new sections are added and others are expanded.

On August 16, 1999, the System Safety Society announced the new CD-ROM version of the 2nd Edition of the System Safety Analysis Handbook. This CD-ROM contains the same information as the printed version with the addition of several features to enhance the use of the material. This includes navigation buttons, color, interactive Table of Contents, and an interactive Glossary. The CD-ROM is compatible with both PC and Macintosh formats. Your computer must be able to run Adobe Acrobat 3.0, which is included on the CD. The CD-ROM version has the advantage of transportability.
