Last Minute Posters

Do you have a last-minute idea that you would like to share with the system safety community? Well, consider preparing a poster to bring along to the conference for display at one of the two poster sessions, Tuesday August 26 at 3:30pm and then again Thursday August 28 at 8am.

As an alternative to a traditional paper, a poster is a great way to share experiences and new ideas with other conference attendees. In particular, it can be a great way to start a discussion with other participants or get people interested in your work. Your poster could also focus on a question or issue that you would like to discuss with other participants.

We strongly encourage all prospective attendees interested in producing a poster for the conference to visit http://www.swarthmore.edu/NatSci/cpurrin1/posteradvice.htm which provides excellent advice on producing high quality posters. This site even includes two different downloadable MS/Powerpoint templates that will allow you to create a poster that is 36x56inches. Even though this particular site was written for folks in the biological sciences, the lessons are spot-on for ISSC poster presenters, and the two Powerpoint templates are well-designed.

In general, the maximum dimensions of a poster for the conference are 40 inches tall by 60 inches wide. The minimum dimensions are 24 inches tall by 36 inches wide. The poster should be designed to stimulate questions or comments about a concept, methodology, tool or experience that is relevant to the theory or practice of system safety. Posters must not be blatant advertisements for services, although it is quite acceptable to show the name of your affiliation below your own name at the top of the poster along with a small logo. The conference organizers reserve the right to take down poster that is not appropriate, e.g., not sufficiently technical.

While it’s too late now to have your poster included in the official program of the conference, we will do our best to find a space on the posterboards for you to hang up your poster during one or both of the scheduled poster sessions. We’ll even supply the thumbtacks!
